Internet Explorer are you serious?

I can't believe that Internet Explorer accounts for 10 percent of the traffic for my blog.

I mean, I know that most of the people viewing my blog are close to my age, and usually somewhat internet savvy. If 10 percent of my peers are using IE, then I know the computer retarded masses are using it even more, and that's just sad. It doesn't tell me which version of IE is viewing the pages, so I pray that you guys are at least using IE8, or maybe even the IE9 beta. On a side note, I had never even heard of the Iron browser until I checked my stats. For those of you that have used Iron, how is it? Is it worth a shot? I like minimalist browsers, but at the same time I like my extensions and add-ons. I like that someone has read this from the iPhone. Awesome.

Also, thanks to all my friends who live abroad for reading my stuff. I didn't realize that I had friends in so many different countries.

Somewhere in this post I hid a reference to Family Guy, specifically from the second part of "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story". It has something to do with Quagmire. It's small, so not very obvious. I'll Paypal a buck to the first person to find it. Happy hunting.

EDIT: CS found the reference. It's the name of the second picture. Scroll down to read his comment. It's part of what Quagmire has written on his RV. Nicely done, CS. I need your email somehow so I can get you your money.

LEGO

So while reading pat washington's blog, I was reminded of the pure awesomeness of LEGO. My kid got $15 for her birthday, so today we went to Toys R Us and told her she could pick out anything she wanted. After some gentle persuasion from me (and a long explanation on how $15 wasn't enough to buy a new bike), she decided to get a LEGO castle set.

Since LEGO is outrageously expensive, she had to get the most basic set ($11.99), but she didn't care. We got home, opened it up, and it was like she was in little kid heaven for two hours. 137 pieces of pure bliss. We built the fort and horse first, then a dragon, then a spaceship with a horse driving it, then about twenty more things. LEGO is frickin awesome. I've still got all my old sets, including the massive pirate ship. We're gonna pull that out this weekend, and I'll show her how we used to build back in the day. Back when LEGOs still looked like LEGOs, instead of all the specialized pieces they have today. Good times.

Awesome Attic Treasures

We were going through a bunch of boxes in the attic, trying to find stuff to sell in the family garage sale. I found my old boxes of books and gaming mags. Computer Gaming Worlds and Nintendo Powers and stuff from the early 90s. It's awesome. I'm reading about how NBA Jam is going to be revolutionary to sports games. Or how bout this one, talking about Duke Nukem Forever in 1999. It's still not been released.

And I found a few books that are going for $20-$30 on amazon right now, like one of the wife's old Alice in Wonderland books. Life is good.

Resurrection

Okay, so obviously I've decided to bring back this blog, since I am currently unemployed and have nothing but time on my hands. Thanks to all my friends who are following and commenting on my posts. I appreciate it guys. If you have any suggestions on what kind of things you want me to post, just put it in the comments. I read every comment that gets posted. Otherwise you can expect the same random crap that I've been posting for the past few days. Thanks for visiting.

Cyber Nations

Next website of interest: Cyber Nations.

Cyber Nations is a browser based RPG. It is a text based game where you build your nation from the ground up, purchasing upgrades, waging wars, and trading with other nations. Currently, about 25,000 nations are in Cyber Nations. Logging in everyday just to collect taxes and pay bills can get sort of boring, and that's where alliances come in.

Joining an alliance provides your nation with protection. Alliances also help with game guides and trading forums. I personally belong to IRON, which used to be one of the strongest alliances in the game, but recently has fallen in rankings since our last lopsided war where we got pounded into the ground. Cyber Nations has an active and dynamic community, with forums that mimic the UN. You can rise to a diplomatic position within your alliance and form blocs with other alliances to attack your enemies. Some websites have their own alliances. There's the GOON alliance, FARK, and there used to be /b/, but they have been wiped out.

Don't let the fact that it's text based discourage you. I've been playing for 4 years, and I had never played a text based browser game before this. It can be addictive. And it's free.

Justin Beaver

Whoever made this should know that it made my daughter laugh for like twenty minutes once I explained it to her. She loves this guy, unfortunately for my ears. She's only 5 though, so at least she's not in love with him, she just likes to dance to his songs, and sing along with random words.

Overclocked Remix

Alright, time for one of my favorite websites. Overclocked Remix is a video game music remix community. Founder djpretzel started the site about ten years ago, and since then it has grown into a huge endeavor, with tons of submissions by talented artists. Remember those beeps and boops from the NES? They've taken them and transformed them into deep musical masterpieces. And not just old stuff, there are remixes from every genre and every system on the site. With genres ranging from symphonic to trance to rock, I can pretty much promise you that you'll find something that you'll love. If you're geeky enough to listen to remixed video game music in the first place, that is.

Some of my favorite artists that contribute are:

Ailsean

AmIEviL

analoq

bLiNd

Protricity

Star Salzman

I've been visiting OCR since around 2001, and I still visit it at least weekly to see what new songs have been posted. Used to be involved in the UnMod section of the forums, but the mods finally neutered it a few years ago. Anyway, it's niche music, but some of it's just amazing. It'll make you go all nostalgic, pulling out the old systems after remembering that tune from your childhood.

Interesting Website Alert

Found an interesting website that lets you create a page with links to your blog, facebook, twitter, etc. Well, it will let you do it once it goes live. It's http://about.me/ and it's currently in development apparently, but you can still reserve your name if you hurry. You'll get a reserved url such as http://about.me/peter or http://about.me/samadams or whatever. If you're interested in such a thing, go over there asap and get your name like I did. Everyone with my name is gonna be pretty fuckin pissed once they see that it's already taken by someone else. They'll also apparently do analytics and traffic reporting if that's your thing, so go check it out.
